Diskover End-User Troubleshooting

Search Results

Please refer to the built-in search tools, manual search queries and/or the Quick Reference Card for detailed information about searching.

Some directories and/or files seem to be missing in search results

  • Expand your search using the * wildcard.
  • If using operators (AND, NOT, OR), ensure they are correctly used and grouped if needed.
  • When searching within a specific field name, verify that both the field name and value are correctly typed.
  • Check if you have saved filters that might be limiting your results.
  • Ensure Current Dir is deselected so Diskover searches all storage volumes and directories.
  • Verify that no specific index/indices are selected, which could be restricting results.
  • Try refreshing your volumes by selecting ⛭ → Reload Indices.

Too many items found in search results

How to display only files or only directories in search results

  • Use the search filters and select file or directory from the Doc type drop-down list.
  • Alternatively, use these field name in the search bar:
  • type:file
  • type:directory

Green info bar shows thousands of results, but not all are visible in the results pane

  • By default, only 10 results per page are shown, but you can increase this up to 1,000 via the items per page selector.
  • If there are more than 1,000 results, multiple pages will be available. The page navigation is at the top-right of the search results pane.

Search results are displayed across multiple pages instead of one long list

  • Diskover's search results are paginated for performance optimization and usability:
  • For speed
  • For speed
  • To make navigating large result sets easier

Lost location and/or path while drilling down

  • The current path location is always visible in the Path Bar (below the green info bar). You can click on any directory in the path bar to jump back.
  • The green info bar also displays the active search path.

How to export search results

  • Click the Export button on the search page:
  • Export paths along with metadata (size, ctime, mtime, atime, type, etc.) to your download folder.
  • Copy paths or file names for pasting elsewhere.

How to share search results

  • Use the Export options or the Share button.
  • Share the URL link to your search results with co-workers.
  • Copy and share the search query for repeatable searches.

How to achieve complex sorting of search results

  • Sorting within the UI can be limited when working with large datasets across multiple pages.
  • The best approach is to Export the results as a CSV file, then use Excel or another spreadsheet tool for advanced sorting and filtering.

User Interface

I lost my settings

The user interface is frozen with a spiraling wheel

  • The ESC key or browser back button usually won't work to exit this state.
  • Instead, try clicking on any icons in the top menu of the Diskover user interface—this often breaks the wait cycle.

The user interface is acting or looking abnormal

  1. If this happens after a software update, first try refreshing your volumes:
  2. ⛭ → Reload Indices

  3. If the issue persists, try the following steps in order:

  4. Hard refresh your browser:

    • Windows: CTRL + F5
    • Mac: CMD + SHIFT + R
  5. Clear the cache
  6. Clear your cookies (Note: This will reset your settings, and you'll need to reconfigure them.)
  7. Log out and log back into Diskover.

Indices

Unable to select indices

Need more frequent scans of indices

  • Your System Administrator may need to schedule more frequent scans of specific volumes. Please contact your system administrator to possibly adjust the scan frequency as needed.

Waiting for files to be indexed

  • If you know that files were recently added to a directory but have not yet been indexed by Diskover, you can view them in real-time using File Action → Live View.
  • This allows you to proactively search and copy paths while waiting for indexing to complete.
  • Note: This feature must be configured and included in your subscription plan.

Scanning/indexing takes a long time

  • The storage volume may contain a very large amount of data, and although Diskover is highly optimized, indexing can still take time.
  • Some storage types scan faster than others, depending on hardware and technology (e.g., newer vs. older storage systems).
  • If performance seems unusually slow, there may be backend-related factors, and the issue should be reported to your System Administrator.

Missing indices

  • By default, Diskover does not load all indices at once for performance reasons, especially in environments with thousands of indices.
  • On the Indices page, there is a Max indices to load input field that controls how many indices are displayed.
  • Indices load in order of creation date—if you don’t see certain indices in the list, try increasing this number.
  • Note: This is a per-user setting stored as a cookie in your browser.
